Update (Sept. 10, 11 am UTC): This article has been updated to add information about Linea’s upcoming airdrop.

Ethereum layer-2 network Linea has restored its mainnet sequencer after a temporary performance degradation, the team said Wednesday.

According to Linea’s status page, the issue was detected at around 5:52 am UTC. Engineers identified the root cause and deployed a fix less than an hour later, by 6:15 am UTC.

The disruption affected Linea’s mainnet sequencer, which is responsible for ordering and batching transactions on the network. While the nature of the performance issues was not detailed, Linea confirmed on their status page that the problem was identified by 6:15 am UTC and was given a fix almost immediately.

By 6:32 am UTC, the Linea team said it had transitioned into a monitoring phase to ensure stability and evaluate the results. “A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results,” the team said.

Coinpectra reached out to Linea for more information, but did not receive a response by publication.

Sequencer issue collides with Linea airdrop distribution

The incident coincided with the launch of Linea’s highly anticipated token airdrop. In July, Linea said that its token generation event (TGE) will take place on Sept. 10. However, at the time of writing, Linea has not confirmed any correlation between the airdrop and the sequencer issue.

Linea’s upcoming airdrop marks a major milestone for the layer-2 network. The company said that it will distribute 9.36 billion LINEA tokens to approximately 749,000 eligible wallets.

The project’s allocation plan said the airdrop is part of the project’s broader ecosystem incentive program, with the goal of rewarding early users and contributors. The claim period will run for 90 days, giving recipients until Dec. 9 to redeem their tokens.

Linea’s airdrop has been widely described as the largest token airdrop on Ethereum since the network’s earlier years. In addition to individuals, the project also allocated tokens to its ecosystem partners and contributors.

The TGE follows months of engagement initiatives and onchain activity, including quests and eligibility snapshots. Major crypto trading platforms like Binance have already announced support for the LINEA token, and trading is scheduled to start today.
